Hey yall. Last summer I bought an '06 Mercury 15hp Four-Stroke for my 14' jon boat. In October, I became very ill, went to the hospital, etc... All this time, I've been staying with my parents in San Antonio for the time being while we figure out whats wrong. I havent been back to my garage to run or the motor or put stabilizer in it, because of the sudden nature of the illness I didnt have time, nor did I even think of it then.

I am concerned that it has been sitting for about 5 months, and without running gas stabilizer through the motor. Is this going to be a problem? When I get back to it, I plan to empty the gas tank and put fresh gas in, but am I going to have any long term problems with the motor because of old/stale gas being in it?

All responses appreciated.

It should be fine, empty all the old gas, open the drains on the carb bowl and refill with fresh gas. This new of a motor should not have much build up or varnish in the carb.

Good idea on the SeaFoam. I just looked up their website, and it says it can be used in several different ways. Should I just do the "mix with fuel" method? That way sounds easiest...

OK awesome. I'll definitely run some SeaFoam through it. Thanks a ton!

Yep, One other thing you could do is use stabil instead of SeaFoam. Stabil is much cheaper and (I think) works just as good. I've used it for 20 years on every 2 & 4 stroke motor I've owned.
Hope your feeling Better these days.
Best Regards
