I'm looking for a new starter motor for a 1997 Force 75.
What will it cost?

Thank you,
Shawn Smith

Take it to a Starter/Alternator shop and see what it cost to rebuild

I had the same problem with my Force 90 last spring, all I did was replace the brushes. Cost was under $15 for the brushes and only took about 30 minutes to repair. Get the part # off the starter and go to the nearest boat dealer, betch they have em. Oh! a new starter for mine was over $200.

I took mine apart, blew out the carbon dust, put it back together with the old brushes - it's been good for a couple years since. (not a Force, but a starter is a starter--right?) And I'm just your average do-it-yourselfer. With a service manual.

Did ya troubleshoot the solenoid & battery connections?

Did you troubleshoot the battery cables too. Cables can corrode right through if there happens to be a break in the insulation, expecially in salt water. A resistance check may not show you anything, but a voltage check at the starter, while it is trying to start the engine, may show a bad cable or connections. Also, if you hand over hand check the cable, any stiff portion of the cable will probably mean it is internally corroded. Marbravo
