Fielder Road Baptist Church Bass Club fished Athens on the 12th. We do paper tournaments so our weights are much higher than live weigh-in tournaments on slot lakes, but, we caught a lot of fish. First place was 5 fish at 23.78 lbs, with the smallest being 18 inches. Second was 22.54 lbs with the smallest being 18 inches. Both had one over 21 inches. First thing in the morning, head toward the dam and fish the point on the right side just as you are making the right hand turn to head toward the dam. This point is the one with the visable standing timber and it used to have the Texas Flag stuck on one of the outside stumps. Only the pole remains from that flag. Fish the point itself, from the stumps on around toward the dam. Just work back and forth on that point. The fish were there at first light ,6:15 am. Weighted flukes and chatter baits. Right against the bank. After the morning bite ends, go back down to the ramp and fish the flat between the ramp and the highway bridge with a clear tiny torpedo. Not sure when this bite will start, but there were multiple limits caught from this area from noon on till about 3:00 pm. The clear water discharge at the back of this flat is good for a fish everytime you come by. Catch him, go away, and come back and catch another. The flat is shallow but the fish are holding in the grass and will come get the torpedo or a weightless fluke. Hope this helps and good luck!

I agree with some of the report for sure. You need to fish the grass on the other side of the point as well on the outside edge.

Where by the dam? I have never seen one there and would like to avoid it as well.

We fished Lake Athens a few weeks ago for a Saturday tourney. This was a paper tourney so all fish counted. ***Btw I have no idea what I'm doing and often fish the wrong way off the boat, least that's what my partner keeps telling me.
With that said my boat partner and I had some great luck and pulled in second, out of our five fish limit, four were mine.
We started with Spinner baits early in the morning and this worked to some success. Once the sun came up and the water started to warm up a bit we switched to sexy shad square bills and had a few good fish, two for 17 inches. Out of a fluke (OK I got bored) I picked up a blue/black jig with a Lake fork watermellon red craw trailer. The first cast off the back end of the boat pulled in a fat 18 inch fish. After a while and no more bites we deciced to leave for another spot. Back toward the damn to the right theres a point that juts out filled with timber. We stopped here and had no luck fishing the bank or the timber. I started casting the jig back out away from the bank, and toward the middle of the lake, we fished this little bay area for the rest of the day. Taking the same jig setup I started pulling through the coontail. It was hard going, but we landed another five fish limit all over 18 inches. Over all we had a great day.

Its on the right hand side a ways out from the dam. Just be careful.
