Do you store your motor with the transom saver on it? In other words, is it tilted? I had a problem with oil leaking out of the tank on my 60hp (same tank I think) and it was a check valve of some kind. I had it replaced during some other service I had done on the motor this winter and the problem is cured. Mine would leak into the cover slowly, but when you tilted the motor down it would just pour out all over the place. Hope this helps.

He never even put it on the bill. I was having a new propshaft installed and a new water pump and seals. When I told him about it he said it was a common problem and that the part was just a few bucks, I guess he just forgot or just thru it in cause I was spending so much money. I looked on the bill just now and it's not on there. If it has drained your tank all the way down then I don't think this is the problem cause mine never got real low from this. It just made a huge mess and I had to lower the engine in the parking lot so that I didn't make the ramp slick. I think if your tank has been drained all the way you need to bleed the air out of your lines or it could damage your engine but maybe Pat or someone who knows all about this can help.

Yep..it was a slow leak...with the transom saver on...I took it off and let the motor down and now its really low...should I keep putting oil in it to keep air from getting in the lines ???

If this is a common problem do I need to store it with the motor down??

I didn't mean to let it sit this long...its only been about 4 months...but it seems like the wind has alwasys been howling when I would get ready to go to the lake eek its been since teal season.
