Guys I'm not sure how many times this topic has come up but I'm normally over in the kayak fishing area. I figured you guys would have better answers than they would. I've done a search on here but had everything except waders come up.
Could you guys recommend a good quality wader and boot that won't break the bank.
Thanks,

Orvis, Simms, Hodgmann, quite a few brands... You're gonna spend some bucks if you get a decent pair. Bite the bullet.

I've had great luck with orvis waders and simms boots. I used to use the cheaper cabelas waders when I worked in fisheries research, and they just didn't cut it for toughness. Look for prior year models of the higher end brands for a better deal- worth it in the long term.

First find waders in your price range from the above list then try on the waders. Specifically looking for foot sizing. Some mediums for instant have a foot range like socks from 7-12, others may be 8-10, the more closely you can dial it into your shoe size the better the stocking will feel and fit in you boot.
I have the $100 Bass Pro. Drove all the way out there from FW instead of Cabelas near my house because the foot sizing range was narrower 9-10 I believe. I have patagonia boots I got from Backwoods that were something like 90% off with multiple markdowns that work fine.

I got the Orvis due to sizing, I have short legs and a lot of the std fit waders they would come up to my chin or higher to fit the rest of me. so fit is important if you are not a std build
I am proud of our troops

My last pair of Cabelas Dry Plus are going on a few years now with no problems, I think they were around $100.
Invest in some good boots, I've got the Simms Freestone boots...they'll last longer than the waders and I think they were only around $120.

Trout bum is right, and
Never let a pair of drys touch ANYTHING and they will last an extra season or two. For me that means booties never touching the ground, and never going down to one knee... no crashing into rocks or brush. Xtra care crawling in and out of the canoe. No HUGE stripers against the thigh..
Kinda p*ssyesque techniques but my cheaper Simms costed $200+
Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

I have the Orvis guides, absolutely amazing, I picked up a back up pair a couple years ago at one of their tent sales. I have a set of patagonia too and like those, my dad loves his new simms.
Boots go with whatever is comfortable. I have orvis and simms depending on what type of sole I want

A year ago I went to bought a pair of $99 Magellan breathable waders from Academy. I know nothing about waders but I have been very happy with these so far. I see waders for a lot more money that are breathable. What features makes them a better set of waders?

I see waders for a lot more money that are breathable. What features makes them a better set of waders? In general, the higher the original MSRP (retail price), the better the quality of fabric / raw materials (more durable / more breathable) and the higher the quality of construction / workmanship. Great deals can be found on closeout as others have pointed out. But in general you get what you pay for, as usually is the case with most things. J.
