heard from a reliable source, that this year may not be so good, and might not even happen. appears the drought is hurting the hatcheries, as well as the rivers and lakes. will keep you all informed if i hear anything about it. if it doesn't happen, i guess we will have to go carp fishing?

just like Florida Largemouth, Striped bass, hybrid bass, redfish and the list goes on. Carp are actually considered naturalized by TPWD.

I say they hurt the smaller indigenous, some, by eating up part of the local food base.

Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

Naa, they're not there long enough to have an impact on indigenous food sources. I was thinking the hatcheries were in Missouri? Not raining there either? I imagine their water resources are extremely stable? Carp in winter, now there's a challenge I can't handle!

I know we had rainbows at the state hatchery in San Marcos when I used to work there, but that was back in the late 90's.

I thought some of them came from that hatchery out at Possum Kingdom, too, but I could be wrong about that.

I know the ones here in the D/FW area comes from Athens.
I call every year (regardless of what schedule on internet has)and find out the time of day they may release. All info comes straight out of the Athens Fishery.

Down here in the south-east corner, they come from the hatchery in Jasper. The strain of trout the use came from Missouri? I think???? Seems like I read that somewhere, but it must have made a big impression on me, at the time.

At some point on the appointed day, the truck with the silver boxes on it will show up, back down close to the water, toss in a 6" hard hose, and open up a couple of compartments.
If you're there to see it happen, you'll see a couple of hundred to a thousand panicked, disoriented shiny fish race around like they've done lost their minds. (They have!! The poor rascals have gone from a protected concrete raceway, to a dark box that jostled them all about, to an open body of water where strangers are trying to eat them.)
If you get lucky, within about an hour, you should start seeing fish caught. From then until about a week, sometimes 2 weeks, you should still be able to catch a few fish.
