No Jared that's definatley not the way I roll and you didn't offend me. I just see how some of these guys who go out hunting for the big ones seem kinda bummed out when they only catch 35 or so box fish on R&Rs and I can't even do that on jugs at Belton. I would much rather catch fish on R&R it just seems hard to do at Belton compared to the lakes in North Texas.

Fish 8 R&Rs and 8 jugs with only 1 hook on each and see. Jugs have more hooks on them, more hooks=more chance for hook ups

I thank God for each day!

My kids love jug line fishing. Pulling that float up and seeing what you got is kinda like christmas morning. Most of them don't have a whole lot of patience for catfishing yet. I only got one catfisherman out of 6 so far. The rest like fishing for crappies or sandies better. Maybe I'm better at putting them on crappies and sandbass, but catfishing takes a bit more patience than most of them can muster but they all love checking the jug lines.

And yes it is harvesting fish. I'm not trying to say it is not. I put out 12 jugs this Friday, and brought in 6 channels 2 to 6 pounds, threw back 2 dinks and one over-eager dink sandie. Had plenty of meat on the table for a family of 8. And it was good too!

To me, jugs = harvesting, rod and reel = fishing. but if it's legal, then so be it. To each his/her own.

Jugs are work. That's why I'm all R&R. I enjoyed using them. Caught tons of big fish. Bad thing is though you put them out one calm winter day the next day may be blowing 40 mph from 3 directions no matter what you have to go run them. I only used to jug fish in Jan/Feb when the fish wouldnt die on the line if left more than a few hours.

This is cool to see a R&R vs Jugline thread where nobody is getting offended and everyone is playing nice. I like the mutual respect that goes around in the cat sect cheers

I used to jug line when I was chasing the striped fish, and then when I started catting a little more seriously I used jugs to locate the bigger fish while I was fishing one area. After a while I started noticing a pattern to the big cats and just used rod and reel

Here's my luck. I go weeks without a really successful R&R trip. I decided I needed to scout with some jugs. We put 15 out. Spread them out. Then fish for an hour. Then go back and pick up the jugs. Of course, we caught 8 fish in under an hour which is not common at shad infested Lake Kirby in Abilene. So the first time in months the fish were active and we had to cut it short to go get the jugs and be in by 1am to go to work the next morning. So yeah, jugs are a pain in the arse!

I think they are good for beginners like me last year who had never seen a big fish. I still have never seen a giant, 26 lbs being the largest, but that has more to do with the lake I fish than method of fishing. Jugs are great for people who don't think they like fishing or are bored easily, like kids. Of course, some of you can catch more on R&R in an hour than I can on jugs so you could entertain the kiddos without much trouble. But in place of a good mentor, I used jugs.

But rarely, if ever, again...

I see some of you have stated that jugs are harvesting fish. However, if you catch 25 on R&R and another guy catches 25 on jugs what is the difference? Aren't both harvesting?
