I saw a post on here recently about a man not having luck with jugs. Most of the replies were to do away with the jugs and break out the R&Rs. I find this strange because at the lake I fish (lake Belton) we catch way more on jugs than R&Rs. For example, last Friday we caught 5 drifting on 8 R&Rs and today in the same spot we caught 20 on 40 jugs. This happens week after week, jugs produce better than R&Rs. Any thoughts on why?

40 jugs at once? if so, you're probably covering a larger area.

Jugs are for meat hauling. You have a bunch of baits out for a bunch of hours equals more fish. Most on here are sport fishermen and only keep what they want to eat pretty quick or for a large fish fry.

Iv also had trouble catching fish on Belton on R&R. I have done pretty good with jugs. Im thinking its beause the fish may be more scattered in Belton than in other lakes. Spreading out drifting jugs has been the best way that I have found. Im gana start trying out the R&R more this winter. Hopefully I can turn things around.

I fish rod and reel for the fight and the hunt of the fish. Jugs are a good tool to use for scouting to find what area the fish are in,but can be pain to deal with. I can catch alot more fish with rod and reel than I can juggin, and have proved this alot of times when we go to the lake and my uncles set out jugs and trots and I rod and reel. Belton is overfished with jugs as it is,last two weekends I've been out, there have been jugs scattererd across areas I like to fish but couldn't because of them. I mostly catch and release though, I've caught around 20 blues on Belton the last 2 weeks up to 12 lbs. and let everyone go. I'm out looking for that big one. I'm no tree hugger though I do keep fish when I'm wanting some for supper. Just hate to see the big ones taken out to be cleaned, and eaten. Plenty of smaller fish to come by.

I'm fishing for the fight too, but I also like to catch fish when I go out. I just find it peculiar that some say jugs do better than R&Rs when it seems the numbers are in your favor to catch more on jugs. If I had my choice I would rather catch a thirty pounder every trip and let em go than catch 30 1 pounders and keep em all. But on the perfect day I would catch 1 30 pounder and 15 2 pounders all on R&Rs(and let the big one go). I hate jugs, I would much rather catch fish on R&Rs I just don't know how.

Also, I let all the ones over 10lbs go. I too want to see the big fish preserved.

I guess I'm different in that I go out everytime with two things in mind...Catching a big one and letting him go and at the same time catching a mess of fish to clean.

Also don't yall have multi hooks on jug line? so you are suspend fishing vs. bottom fishing on R.R.? which hook on jugs is catching fish? the middle hook or 10-15 foot down in 25 ' of water or such? time frame the same? do the jugs cover more area?

That's cool Trey, wasn't tryin to offend you in my post. I used to put jugs on Belton, and have actually caught more and bigger fish on rod and reel with alot of time on the water and figuring out patterns on the lake. I just know of alot of juggers on Belton that will keep everything they catch, not saying you're one of them. I know of a 64,60,54,and a 46 pound blue being taken by jugs and cleaned on Belton here recently. Sure would be nice to have those back in the lake.
