The hyraulic steering on my '97 Ranger developed a problem after sitting for a month. While under load the steering wheel seems to slip when you try to turn. Almost feels like the fluid may be slipping by a seal or something. Any ideas?

I had the same problem with mine, it was about 1/3 quart low on fluid. Adding fluid fixed the problem. Also, air in the line can cause the same problem. I have not had this problem, but the guys at the service center said the only way to fix this problem was to drain it all out and refill.

Take a friend fishing, someone has to take the pictures

FIRST, CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL, IF IT IS LOW THEN ADD TILL IT RUNS OUT OF THE FILL HOLE. . USE THE RECOMMENDED TYPE FLUID FOR THE UNIT, (ASK A DEALER) . ADD SOME AND TURN THE WHEEL FROM LOCK TO LOCK A COUPLE TIMES TO HELP REMOVE ANY BUBBLES, CONTINUE THIS UNTIL THE RESERVOIR IS FULL. IF YOU ARE STILL HAVING PROBLEMS THEN YOU MAY NEED TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. USUSALLY UNLESS YOU DETECT SOME PRETTY EVIDENT LEAKAGE SOMEWHERE, JUST ADDING SOME FLUID WILL CORRECT ANY PROBLEMS.

Mine is doing the same thing so I talked to dealer. He said first check my oil level.. add oil if needed... work the steering to get all the air out... then check for leaks.. Run your hand on the bottom of the cylinder at the motor on each end.. if you find oil you have a leak.. I have fixed 3 leaks so far and I think the seal may be leaking on one side but I'm still checking... Also Rockwall marine said they could have it fixed and be in and out in one day...

Hope this helps... Marcus...
