I quit fishing tournaments about 7 years ago because the fun of just fishing was gone.I didn't fish for 5 years and started back last year and am having a blast just fishing with my buddies. We fish for the fun of it and a release from the pressures of work during the week and we don't have to lie to each other about how we are catching our fish. We actually try to help each out.I lost my best friend in life when we started fishing against each other. The few hundred dollars for first place in a tournament wasn't worth the price.

Seeing that this was probably posted because I posted about an 18 pound sack cought yesterday, I posted an post such things because I am super competitive and am truly proud of the job we do , and seeing tha last year in the the grapevine series was our first time ever to fish the lake and have found and cought fish every time out and quality fish on top of that, and only fishing it a hand full of times. 3 years. 3 years is how long we have been serious bass fishing and have been able to hang with dang near every body we have fished against from the money takers from bass champs to media. I think that's something to post about and be proud of...
I assure you bud this has nothing to do with you. This was a topic that was not pointed indirectly or directly at anyone's post but rather a question to all fishermen their thoughts. It was a simple open discussion, I am just seeing what and why. I personally will tell things to those I know or have helped me in the past or help on a particular topic when I can. If I don't know enough to help which is about 99% of the time I say nothing. You can rest assure you did a fine job at you should be proud. The way I view it is similar to Mark Perry. I like to help others the same way I get help. I owe everything I have learned in this addiction to about 10 people who taught me everything I know today. So, if I see someone I can help, I do. However, if I get on something really special like I did earlier this year on Fork, I will post some pictures and maybe a short story about it, but didn't include enough detail that anyone would be pounding the area next week. Plus nothing is a secret on Fork anyways. In the long run, I have a very small group of people I will help on certain lakes and they return the favor. Otherwise I post general things I think can help people.

I wish I could link a post from Georgia Outdoor News I commented on but it was deleted. A man posted some pics of some absolute hawgs. He said the spinner bait bite is still on! In the back ground of the pics he had smeared the scenery...understandable. My comment was "what lake did you catch them on?" A buddy of his replied "LOL like he's really gonna tell you that! Then another commented "yeah I laughed like hell when I read that!" So I replied "I'm not asking where on the lake he caught them, just wondering what lake he caught them on" Then many started posting....and the post started to get ugly after I called the guy a dooshe. Here's the warning I got from the moderator...Dear SkeeterEater, You have received an infraction at Georgia Outdoor News Forum. Reason: Personal Attack / Insult ------- You've broken several forum rules on this one thread. Including the word "dooosch". And the continued harrassment. From the rule book: Posts containing personal attacks or harassing, inflammatory, vulgar, abusive, threatening, sexually-oriented, hateful, or obscene language are prohibited on this Forum. Posts violating this prohibition will be removed. A member who violates this prohibition may be banned from the Forum. ------- This infraction is worth 1 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire. Original Post: http://forum.gon.com/showthread.php?p=6438868Quote: I've never heard of someone not wanting to reveal what lake they were fishing......don't really care....I was jus wondering.....What a doooshe! I will usually help people if I have info on a lake I am fishing. I used to fish Fork twice a year for a week at a time. On my last day, I would tell someone just getting to the lake exactly where, when and how I caught my fish while there. I like to help and I knew I was not going to be back for a while. My spots would be different when I got back, so why not make someone elses trip better. I have never understood why bass fisherman are so closed mouth about their spots or secret baits. I can understand not sharing if you are prefishing for a tournament or a guide who makes his living fishing their "secret holes". Someone taught us all to fish or we would not be doing it, so why not share what we know to help someone else? I am 63 years old and started fishing when my grandfather took me at the age of two and I am still learning today. None of us know it all, although I have run into a few who think they do. Why not share and make the experience great for all. Just my 2 cents, and I know there are many out there who will say I have lost my mind.

What broke me of the habit of asking where they are biting,I was fishing a tourn. on Palistine and stopped for gas in Frankston, and asked the old man that came outside to pump our gas in the boat,"where they biting at on the lake, he called me to the back of the boat and said, since you look like a pretty good guy I'll tell you,he said anywhere north of the dam, after getting on the lake, hell the whole lake is north of the dam. I bet he is still laughing about it. Sure broke me of asking.
