I am getting ready to purchase a new boat and am intrested in buying a 60 hp Evinrude E-tec to put on the boat. Just curious if anybody has heard or had any good or bad news regarding the new E-tec's. The boat will probably be a Xpress VX17DB or the new HD17DB.

To new to tell yet...........however I have read several articles on the engine and all say it is really top notch.......even has two settings for oil. If you use Evinrude synthetic 100:1, or regular 2 cycle oil at 50:1 ...your dealer sets it up for one or the other..........no brake-in needed, has some sort of ceramic coating on the cylinders???
I would set it up for 50:1 oil mix..........just dont trust a 100:1 mix .......my 2 cents worth.

My next door neighbor has a Evinrude ETEC 250 on his new Basscat and we were going across Lake Athens at about 65 mph and I was able to talk to him and hold a regular conversation because you could barely hear the engine. I also noticed that when it was idling you wouldnt know it was on except for the water coming out of it. He loves it and said he really loved the not having to break it in period...

I have heard only bad things about the 225 e-tec. I know of one guy who is on his third e-tec and the boat is less then a year old. but I think mercury, omc and yamaha all have a bad motor now and then. I took a 2005 e-tec 225 on a basscat cougar on a test drive weds and was very impressed with how quiet it was and the holeshot. I am a mercury guy but that e-tec almost changed my mind. well if I did not have opti around my mind would have been changed.
