update: went to look for a length and of course like everything else in life it doesn't say anything. Turned the wheel for the heck of it and it doesn't seem as stiff as when I am running. Also last time I ran it, it was 30 degrees outside. Maybe they were just a little more stiff at that time.
Still need to know the length for future reference, but looks like i am ok for now...

They could have had some water that frozen in them--if so, thats not so good-water will cause rust --I don't know about your cables, but all I've ever seen has numbers about every foot or so. some are hard to see. If you trim the motor too high, sometimes it will cause a hard "spot" too--let us know...

It should be harder to make a left turn when you're up and running, the prop torque will try to make everything go right. If that's what you are referring to, it's normal. A $15 torque tab will nearly completely eliminate that, if you find it annoying.

It is harder to steer left, but is stiff compared to my dads old 100 hp johnson. When not running its not to bad. I have a 24 pitch 4 blade on boat too, maybe that makes it worse. I have the tab on it but havent adjusted it yet.
Headed to the lake this weekend and will check and see.
Thanks

I was going thru my old post and forgot to update on how the cable replacement went.
End up changing from a dual rack and pinion to a dual rotary steering helm, pretty fun drilling the hole in the dash with no pilot hole.....anyway used a tractor with a front bucket attachment to pick the engine up and off the transom, after that it went fairly smooth, no troubles running the cables down the side to the console. Only problem was the old rack cables were 14' and the new rotary cables were 14', assumed good but they were about 2' too long????? End up just putting the slack in the back battery/gas tank compartment.

Bought the cables from Foster. Got two brand new Teleflex cables for cheap. Thanks.
I just ordered the wrong size, but we made it work. My mistake.

Glad you got her going. I finally got my hydraulic steering in and its a great up date. Really makes driving a boat more fun. It may be just me, but I think the boat is even faster..I had to do that hole soze change with no pilot hole- I finally used a jig saw..not pretty, but got it close enought to finish with file..
