I know this has been beat to death several times, but I only get to fish 4-5 times a year and want this to be a good trip. We are going next week. (17th-20th)

1. What do I need to take to Falcon? I am NOT a very good Jig fisherman, but am willing to try.....what Jig do I need?

2. Since I am going as a guest, I don't wnat to take everyting I own.....what do I need to trim down to?

3. Braid or Fluorocarbon? How heavy?

4. I have been there before and each time the water level has been from 3ft over pool to 40 under. Knowing this changes things, what should be best pattern?

Thanks for your input.

Strike king 6xd in citrus shad. Throw it near any Rock you can find. Floro for your cranks and 65 pound braid for flippin. Flip brush hogs and senkos In about 8-10 feet.

Been down there quite a bit. 3 Baits, Crankbaits 15 lb(Floro), FootBall Jigs 25 lb(Floro), Flipping 65 lb (Braid). I'm part owner of Rock Crawler jigs so I'm partial to them. If you get some you will like them too, use a 1oz. Xcite Baits Raptor Craw in Molten color for Flipping. Try the Fury Deep in Shellcracker color.

Best of Luck,

Chris

+1 He knows what he is talking about!
Also, I have also used 30# flouro leader with 65# braid and I have had no problems with it, having landed a 12 lb, and a couple of 9 lbs, and had no breakoffs.

Not going to get into the argument about if it's posible to use lighter tackle. As you know there is a good chance on every cast that you might hook a monster so it's smart to use as heavy tackle rods and line as you can get away with. I like 65 lb braid with a 40lb floro leader, or 25 lb floro.

As for jigs, I love Jime Edwards Jo Baby jigs -- either football or brush depending on how I'm going to use them. He's a Falcon guide and has built these jigs for Falcon for the most part.

Make as few changes to your usual fishing style as possible. Fish the line you are most comfortable, fishing. If you can't fish a jig, then fish a plastic.

Very good advice posted. Only thing I'd add would be fish slow where they are.

Cover water hard til you find them then stay put. Go talk to James at FLT.

Falcon fish love rocks and they love cranks.

We didn't have any luck with flukes on our trip. All but 1 of my fish came from DD22's in the color called "Jelly Bean". It's the best looking tilapia imitator out there. There other guys were having great luck with Dirty Jigs "HP Flippin jig" in wat/red color and a matching beaver trailer.

All of the fish I found were in 8-15FOW along rocky points/ledges. Most of my rods were spooled with 30lb braid and 20lb floro and I only lost 1 fish due to breaking off.

You need to look at FURYLURES.com F18 deep diver. The tilapia color is very nice. As mentioned earlier Patric Starnes and Chris Snyder have caught a lot of big fish on the Shellcracker color. The F4 Squarebill will rival any bait on the market. All of the baits are hand painted.
