Striper fishing requires more preparation than any other kind of fishing that I do. But it is worth it. CPRd these 2. Had a good one dive into the rocks and break off and another managed to escape after a few seconds fight. Bait tank worked well.
RealBigReel I don't go too fast but I go pretty far.

Butch That is my kayak HYBRID (balsa and Kevlar). It is SOT. You can see the edge of the Mirage Drive well, which is plugged in the first picture. HYBRID's story here. http://www.texaskayakfisherman.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=148792I have caught several hundred fish from HYBRID this year. Zombie I use 20# superbraid with a doubled 12# fluorocarbon leader. Get the strength of 24# but the visibility of 12#. Superbraid is superior for trolling and drifting as it gives less drag. I screwed up. As soon as the fish went down I should have let up instead of cranking down. I could feel the rocks on the line. Lesson relearned.
RealBigReel I don't go too fast but I go pretty far.

Very nice. When Texoma clears up from the warnings I'm going to start targeting stripers too. I'm ready for a sleigh ride .

ReelBig,
can you describe your knots for setting up the double 12 ?
Are they in line or side by side ?
Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

For a doubled leader: Cut a piece of leader about 2 times the length needed plus a little. Take the 2 tag ends together and tie a doubled surgeons loop being carefull to keep the 2 loops even. This I usually catspaw into the swivel. On the other end I tie various different knots depending on what is the application. It can just be catspawed into a lure like a Darting Shad or it can be tied off into a doubled surgeons loop also. My favorite knot for doubled line to a swivel, lure or hook is the Tuna Knot. http://www.georgepoveromo.com/content.php?pid=58This is the strongest knot that I know of. I just don't cut the extra tag end. And if you leave the loop uncut it can be used for an optional drop shot.

Nice post, RBR. I also noticed how dry the inside of your hybrid kayak is...looks like a great fishing platform.
