How much power should be sufficient for an 18' fiberglass boat. I have a 24 volt set-up. I want to have plenty of power but don't want to waste money on too much power.

IMHO, You can never have two much power on a trolling motor. I suggest you get the biggest one you can get. When its windy, rough, etc. you will wish you did.

I have a 17' Ranger and just put a new 55# MK on two months ago It does fine, but if the wind is kicking up hard, I do have to put it on high. For me, money was the reason I didn't put a bigger motor on my boat, so go with max you can afford. Academy has a 67# MK All Terrain for around $460.00 and some change. I'm new to boat ownership, but I've not had a problem with my MK All Terrain.

I have an 18'5" Skeeter and my trolling motor
is a 76lb thrust and it handles it good.

I second Cajun and Seminole on this. I would say 65# at a minimum, and 75# would be ideal.
