Well I got stuck with the job of overhauling the subdivisions pond, after getting rid of the tame ducks and about 100 mudcat, the turtles are now in full swing. I'd guess 300 or more come up when I feed, and I don't really want them all laying eggs Anyone know of any legal traps or anything I could try?

hotdogs and chicken liver used to work at my parents house. Don't know of any trap to catch em. Of course a .22 will fix that problem also...But that won't work in a subdivision. Before someone speaks, yes I know about ricocheting bullets, and yes I shot pretty much straight down, not across the pond with a nice hillside for a backdrop. Peta is not listening are they.

Yess there are traps. Dunn's fish farm sells them. They work. There are some "turtle farms" in Louisianna and S.E. Texas....believe it or not. I think they sell the eggs or meat in Asia or something. They will pay for breeding age turtles sometimes... I can't imagine how long it will take you to trap that many turtles. Hope that job has a pension plan.

A floating turtle trap will catch many quite rapidly, but like trapping most wildlife, it won't get them all.

Cameron I caught over 300 out of one pond with a floating trap from Dunns fish farms. It didn't take very long. Joe

I made my own trap when I was younger living at home. We had a big problem with turtles killing my mothers tame ducks. I made a 4'X 4' Square out of 4X4's Made a cage below that out of 1/2 mesh wire. Then I took welding rods and drove them on the inside of the 4X4's, then baited the inside of the trap. It worked well. you can catch a lot of them but you will never get them all.

If they surface when you feed em get a couple friends with cast nets to come over. Check area pet shops to see if any will buy all you catch too, make some money off this while you're at it !!! David C.
4 out of 5 voices in my head say call in sick and go fishing !

Basically the trap that Dunns sells is a floating cage that has a spring loaded top. They crawl up to sun themselves on it and it drops them down inside where they can humanely be removed later and taken elsewhere or dispatched as you please.
