I still throw an Uncle Josh #11 on a skirted jig in cold weather. I know with plastics you get way more styles and sizes and colors but I've always felt a pork trailer gives the bass something real to hold onto and gives me more time to set the hook.

It is a bit of a hassle to deal with and you do have to keep it from drying out if its out of the water for very long but to me, its worth it.

I downsize to a #101 for smallies and spots and I think the pork being so pourous helps it take any scent you apply better.

After having a few fish lost due to flip casting and the pork spinning and the hook embedding into the pork and not getting through, I have gone away from pork.

I love jig & Pork when the water gets colder! you get more bites in really cold water with pork - it's a proven scientific theory that cannot be dis-proven by science or man!

Absolutely!!! If you want to get more bites in the colder water go to a hair jig and pork. I throw it all year but throw it more when the water gets in the 50's.

Where do you find 'hair' jigs these days? I also use pork when the water gets near the 50 degree mark or lower.

If you like pork take a look at Uncle Josh Meat. Its pure fat, no rind. So no more stiff, wrinkled baits. They come out looking perfect, soft and supple. Plus there is no need to worry about it balling up over the hook, its so soft the hook will go right through it. Still 10x as durable as plastic.

I have heard first hand from Jerry how tough of a day it was, I think the water temps were in the mid 30's. And we had a crazy spring with a ton of rain and all the lakes were really muddy.
