I'm about ready to get a brand new '04 Yamaha 250 EFI, saving some large bucks. I expect to keep this for a good while. I currently have an EFI Yamaha and am very happy with it. Any comments?

You should be very happy with it.

I'd disregard the comments about "you should have got an HPDI. The gas savings is huge"....you're probably saving enough up front to pay the gas difference for many years. laugh laugh

HPDI vs EFI depends on the initial cost as you are looking at an '04. The EFI's are probably a safer bet for reliability though.

I like the direct injected engines because of the emissions and fuel savings but they have more parts that can fail. Soon the question on new motors will be moot as the EFI's are no longer manufactured.

Jeff or Anybody, I'm looking into getting a "New" Yamaha 250 or 300 HPDI or EFI for repowering my boat. Also considering a Mercury 250XS. Any suggestions on where to find the best prices on one of these motors. Thanks

Try Jaco's for the mercury. I was out there and found talked to them about shipping to Texas and it was less than 200 dollars.
I bought my 150 there and had them hang it on the back of my boat. http://jacosmarine.com/

Todd Morgan @ C&O has some absolute killer deals on some 250 & 300 HPDI's.
