1. spinning reels were Michell 300s? 2. The casting reel was a red Ambassador 5000 3. One could buy a package (in the back of Sports Afield) with 3 reels, 3 rods 100 baits and a tackle bok for $19.95? Anyone ever buy one of those? 4. About the only 'plastic worm' was a pre-rigged Creame? 5. Minnows were 3 dozen for a dollar? 6. Catfish Charlie and Liver were the only catfish baits? 7 Most fishing boats were flat bottoms, wooden (or both? and a big engine was a9.5hp? Just reminising, but we caught fish!!!! capt david

Not only remember it... I still have those reels. LOL I was there when Cream came out with the first plastic worms at Joe's Sporting Goods in Tyler, Texas. Moved from a metal rod and wood boat to a solid glass rod, 5000C with monofiliment line and aluminum boat. Then saw hollow glass rods. The first graphite rods were so light... but compared with todays rods they were like telephone poles. LOL I still have some of the original rigged Cream worms, Bushwacker spinner baits, and Bomber lures. Many happy memories.

Fishing was great because the were not a thousand homes on the banks edge with boater hating owners. There was not a thousand trot lines or jug lines in every cove. And we,the fisherman were more respectful of everyone and not as rude.

I still have some 300's, when I graduated from a cane pole I used a 4 1/2 ft steel rod with 3 guides and a brooklure reel, still got it. carried a 5HP Sea King and a gallon can of gas, fished from a rented yellow jacket wood boat, we finally got a 14 ft alumacraft, used a sinker and line to measure water depth and landmarks to mark a spot, 1 small tackle box with a half dozen lures, and enjoyed every bit of it, Sometimes I still miss the simplicity. But keeping up with technical stuff I don't have room for all the tackle I have accumulalted. and still have to try all the new, that comes out.

I still have a few of those lures...hulla popper, hell benders, river runt, bush whackers, that I bought at Gibson's discount for 75 cents. I also have a couple of mitchell 300s & a mitchell 302. Remember Herter's catalog..a great big catalog that had everything an outdoorsman could imagine...& cheap ? We had it all, back in the 1950s Roger How many of these do you remember ?

Need to throw the then American made Zebco 33 in there. It and the 300 were my favorites.
