New to me boat. 150 Mercury XR6....carburated....fresh tune up by Rockwall Marine.

Still have not figured out the best starting sequence to get her going. Takes a while. Have tried unchoked and tried with just the key choke.

It has a Hot Foot and not sure if you guys know any tricks to quicker starts.

Open to suggestions to shorten my learning curve.

Kyle

Push the key in while starting and pump the hot foot, that's what I do to start mine no problems

Give this a try. Usually works on most carb motors.
Pump tha buld up.
TUCK it All tha way in.
Hold tha enrichner in while ya try to start (first time, cold) NO THROTTLE.
Motor will belch, fart or in some way try ta fire.(might even start)
Release tha key.
Trim back to level.
No enrichner, turn tha key ta start with very, very slight throttle depression.

Carb motors all have their own little quirks when it comes ta startin'. You will find yours in a short time by tryin' a few different things. It takes a lot of fuel to fire a carb motor when its cold but after that you should be able ta just touch tha key............jmo

TLW is right. Try to turn key to on position, not start, hold it in for 5-10 seconds, then while cranking continue holding key in until she tries to start. After that you should be fine.

The sequence on my yammi is this. I pull the choke out on motor ( my electric start never seemed to work right), Throttle her up and crank. Stumbles the first time. Starts everytime on second crank. When it gets cold I make sure my starting battery is freshly charged before heading to launch.

I pump bulb, push in key for a few seconds, start and hold key in for a few extra seconds then give alittle throttle.

Boatless for minute

my 1997 xr6 goes like this:
squeeze bulb until firm
trim motor in until level or below
turn key on
after beeps stop push in key count to 10
turn key to start still pushed in until motor fires
release key then turn to start should fire up and idle
if it kicks out starter no start depress hot foot slightly
important if it is trimmed too high starting is hard to accomplish
14 years and never has failed to start but then again i've got mine down
