Pinnacle PLS-10. Gold colored Calcutta style reel. Used and abused now for 8 years in Salt and Fresh. I think I've only had it completely apart and cleaned once. Caught it on clearance at Academy in Shertz for $29.00

I can think of 2 reels that have been discontinued that were my favorites. I still have these reels and they are still going strong. I wish there was a way to update these reels with todays technology.

1st reel is an old Shimano Bantam SD 10. I love throwing tiny crankbaits on light line and you can cast them a mile with this reel.

2nd reel is a Lews BB1-LE. I've had this reel for 15+ years and has only been to the repair shop one time. With the Lews Speed Spool reels you know your fishing them right when you hear the tick of the ball bearings when you crank them slow.

They're repainted, renamed, with more gear ratio options. I'd actually be happy if I liked them.

I realized I liked them AFTER they were discontinued, but the Curado D's have my vote. A more well made reel may never be made again for the price...

+1 for the Curado 200DHSV.
And the old green Shimano Curado
and the old Shimano Castaic.

The old Quantum 1310 MG and the early and mid 90's Abu Black Max reels were the best there was for the money. I still have a few of each. I swear, I could reel in a Buick with that Quantum. For now I am sticking with the tried and true Abu Ambassadeur C3. I guess there is a reason they haven't discontinued these things after like a million years.

That Shimano 10xg bantam mag reel was a good reel and tougher than a lockjawed catfish. I have 2 of them and use them for bank fishing and as catfish reels.
I have noticed a few of them for sale on ebay.

I see this all the time as part of my reel repair business

BEFORE PURE FISHING and JARDIN WRECKED the reel industry, you could STILL get parts to fix those favorite oldies or make them brand new again

For you Shimano lovers the Japs have always improved their reels so its not so much of a bug there

Until mfg went to the Chinee factories we had a lot of good quality stuff

Its just the way the world works today.

Anybody been fishing as long as me? Remember the ABU Garcia Ultra Mags? One of the original magnetic control and low profile baitcasters. Bullet proof and you could buy them at Oshman's for $29.99. Great reels.
