How long do you weight to set the hook after feeling a tick with finesse lures and plastics. I see some pro's wait a few seconds and then set it......

Immediately!!!
That tick is the fish crushing the bait against the top of it's mouth. If it doesn't like what it tastes or feels...OUT it goes faster than you can imagine!

Fishing is not a matter of life or death,
it's much more important than that!

Then why do I see the pro's weight? I was just watching Terry scroggins on Classic patterns a few minutes ago and when he would get a bite he would extend his arm out wait a few seconds and say "there he his" and then SET THE HOOK

Most anglers the rule is to hesitate unless flipping or pitching brush.

Depends on the bite. I set the hook immediately 99% of the time when fishing a worm or a jig. If the fish are biting funny, grabbing the bait by the tail or just slapping at it, I'll wait 'til they load up before setting the hook.

I've always laughed and thought this subject was funny. I heard years ago that fish don't have hands....if you feel a bite the bait is in their mouth. But, also as you mentioned I've seen pros wait (weight means pounds/ounces!) I remember Boyd Duckett saying "she dropped it...then she's got it, and set the hook. So, I guess it's a judgement call....I choose to cross their eyes at the first sign of a bite.

How long do I weight......? If I'm fishing a worm I WAIT about a second. Sometimes if the fish are not aggressive and I'm missing the hookset I'll start swinging as soon as I feel the tap

same here.....sometimes you have to wait before you feed the steal to them.

My rule that I go by are "Hook sets are free", I go lip jerking soon as I feel the bite.

I don't weight. I don't wait either.

I don't weight. I don't wait either. Like Al Eason used to say - "fish ain't got no hands - the bait is in his mouth!!"

I pause after feeling the first tap. Seems like I have a lot better hook-up ratio that way.

It depends on what you're throwing. Bass will pickup a soft plastic, sit still with it in its mouth for a second, then reposition it to get ready to eat it. If you're setting the hook imediatly and the fish only has it awkwardly at the end of its mouth, you're likely to rip it out. Bass like to eat soft plastics.

On a jig I don't wait as long, and hard baits I set immediately -- I don't think fish will hold them as long as soft plastics.

Depends on how they're eating that day, I may hit them immediately or give them a second to get the bait all way in or reposition it or whatever. If it's a bait that they really think is a crawfish, sometimes they'll hit it real quick to kill it, then come back to actually eat it but the general rule of thumb is you'll feel three taps
1. The fish picking it up.
2. The fish spitting it out.
3. You're partner hitting you in the back of the head because you just missed a fish.
