I am looking to buy my first real boat and took one for a test ride today. My only concern is thus, is it normal for the boat and steering to want to pull to right until the boat gets trimmed out/on plane? Thanks in advance for the input.

Zac

That's generally a pretty normal thing...all that initial torque has got to go somewhere. How big a motor?

Oh, forgot the details. It's a 125 Mercury on a 17.5' Nitro . I assumed it was just torque due to the fact it went away after the boat was on plane and trimmed out. The only boat I have had the recent pleasure to pilot was a rather high follar boat with dual hydraulic steering and it wasn't as noticable.

If it doesn't have hydraulic steering, you'll definitely feel it. Especially as it tourques up to get onto plane. If you don't pull the trigger, I've got one of those fancy ones for sale.

i had a nitro with a 75 merc on it with the same problem when i first got it. it sounds like what mine did all you have to do is adjust the trim tab thats above your prop. on mine it was a 5/8 head loosen it and turn a bit and retest took a bit on the water to adjust it so it didnt pull anymore. also when i changed to a ss prop i had to readjust it again but thats the same thing mine did till i adjusted it. good luck hope this helps you

Mark you took the words right out of my mouth. That is exactly what i thought it would be too. We had a mercury 35 horse that we has to adjust quite a bit to make it go straight, and it does not affect the performance what so ever, just makes it drive straight.
