I own a 1995 nito w/ a 1996 mercury 120, sometimes when I put the throtlle down into gear it stalls out. When I took the cover off to inspect the motor I noticed fuel spitting out right in front of the top carb. The bottom carb is not doing this, is this my problem, what can I do myself to fix this? Is this even a problem? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

That is usually a cause of the float in the top carb that is not set right, very common problem. You can fix it yourself if you are comfratable rebuilding the carb and all. If not let me know and i can rebuild it for you. Its not my full time job anymore but i still do boat work on the weekends. Andy-214-912-1030

Hey, thanks alot Boatman31! I will look into the carb rebuild. I've never rebuilt one but if it looks to be to much I will definetly give you a ring. A good boat mechanic is always good to know. Can I call you for other problems in the future aswell? How much do you think a carb rebuild will run me?

Hey no problem, glad i can help. Sure call anytime, if i dont answer leave a message and i will get back with you within a couple hrs at least. Just a carb rebulid usually will cost you about 60.00 at a boat repair shop, i charge half that.

Try the carb rebuild this wont hurt anything..... however OPTI just gave you the indicators of a reed problem. If its the reeds the engine will need to be disassembled. If you dont fix this you might suck parts of a broken reed directly into the combustion chamber......... rings and pistons have a hard time eating pieces of metal. !!

By the way last year I heard a small rattle in the motor and decided to take it in to a mechanic. Apparently the muddabbers had built a nest underneath the cowling and it broke off and was sucked into the carbs!!! Mechanic had to disassemble the engine and clean the reeds. Now I keep the motor covered to prevent this........ boat is stored undercover inside a shed. Just a word to the wise if you store your boat and see muddabbers flying around all the time!

A bad day fishin' is still better than work!
That's BOATMAN1 with the blue hat on! BUT the BOAT is fake!
