How has the fishing been at Fork lately? I want to hit lake Fork for some awesome bass fishing soon and wanted to hire a guide. I know there are other times of the year that are better, but is this time of year bad for Fork?

I went with Mark Pack yesterday and we caught about 30 on spoons and little George between about 3 pounds up to about 7 pounds nothing real big but good size over all on two spots.

I have a slightly different mind-set when I go out with a guide. I am there for the education aspect. The learning. All the guides I have had the pleasure of fishing with on Fork or elsewhere have an absolutely amazing knowledge of bass fishing. From the where, the why, the when.. all the little pieces of the puzzle we, as fishermen attempt to put together each time we hit the water. THATS why I enjoy fishing with guides. Catching is icing on the cake. I've yet to be out with a guide and not catch a fish. May not have knocked em dead, but caught fish regardless.
MORE importantly to me, Ive NEVER fished with a guide and NOT been blown away with the vast amount of information they share, and teach you as you share the deck. soak it in, ask questions, if its slow fishin, ask why? L E A R N from them.. they are damn fine at what they do.
Merely opinion. I certainly understand the desire to want to catch 100 bass in a days fishing. I too share that desire, but dont let it drag down your spirits should you catch an off day while fishing with a guide. Love every second of it.

That is THE reason I go out with guides so the time of year or how the fish are biting doesn't really matter. in fact, I would almost rather it be tough to see what they do on tough days.

A lot of people sit in tree stands this time of year and traffic on the lake is low.
If you like to get out and get away from the crowds, this is the time of year to do it.

This is usually why I hire guides (of course catching the big'uns is nice too). I just did not want to go if the fishing had pretty much shut down.

Kinda depends on what type of fishing you want to do/learn. Fish deeper? Shallow? Go for numbers? or just big bass? If you find schoolers this time of year, action can be fast and furious as bass gorge on pre-winter diet of shad. Wait a few months and big bass time will be on us as the big'uns stage for spawn - takes more patience and lot of pitching. Spring brings more consistent bite and big fish possiblities, as well. Personally, speaking, I don't fish beds, prefering to let the bass do their thing and pull off. Better for the fishery overall, imo. That said, there is never a bad time to go fishing, as you'll be on the lake, only sometimes will be more productive than others. If money allows take a guide out for the different seasons to fine tune your skills and preferences. You can't loose.

I agree with the learning aspect as well. I have gone out with Tom Redington twice now and I have learned more from him in those two days than years of fishing on my own. He is a FLW Pro. Think about it. Its like getting a PGA pro to play a round of golf with you and help you with your game. The learning experience is priceless.
