No leaks. No kiddin? It only seems logical that it would take less oil at idle than at WOT. I have the same motor as you. My gear stripped out and the oiler failed after I had come off plane and idled for about 5 minutes or so. Had it gone out when I was getting out of the storm, it would have fried cause I sure as hell would not have heard that pissy arsed alarm. Opti, nonetheless, IMO, oilers are for people to lazy to pre-mix. I know that you have helped numerous people here, even me, and I appreciate it. I have been here longer than what you see in my profile. Have assumed another name. I had a VRO and it was GOOD. The plastic drive gear, or whatever Mercury calls it, is a piece of chit. My set up will not let the motor run over 5600 rpm's unless you trim so much it blows the prop. This aint my first rodeo. You can say their system is fine, good or whatever. It is still a mechanical device that can and will fail. Aint no arguing about it.

Using the logic of removing all mechanical devices on a bass boat that could possibly fail will leave you fishing off the bank. All you can really do is maintain your equipment well and use it. If it fails, get it fixed. I, for one believe oil injection is an advance in technology that I think I will keep.

I never said the systems were safe. That is the point. when was the last time you took off your oiler and looked to see if that drive gear was wearing out? I doubt you ever have or if one even could. You do your thing, I'll do mine. The question was Keep it or Loose it. Can I not have a freakin opinion? Hell yeah I can. If ya don't like it, click onto another thread. 50:1 is 50:1 no matter how ya go about it. At least I know without a doubt mine will be there. If I had one that was under warranty, heck yeah I'd keep it. Like I said, I aint got deep pockets to trust such devices. If it fails, motor blows. Several thousand $ to chance it? I think not. Advance in technology? I like advancement, EFI, DFI? You bet. Mucho better than carbs for me. But oilers? Nope. All it does is put the only lubrication your motor gets. No lube, no go. If mine gets gas, it gets oil. Caint get one without the other. Yours on the other hand could. Is this plain and simple enough??????
