If its a stock post 80's engine I would keep it. The earliest ones had some reliability problems but most of the later ones are reliable. Check your lines as they can deteriate over time but I would keep the injection.
If you are running an altered motor and run it over 6000 rpms I would lose the injetion and mix 40 to 1 oil.

I WOULD CHUNK IT QUICKER-n-YOU COULD SAY "KISS A DUCK"!!!!If you put 1pt of oil in each 6 gallons of gas, that motor may blow again sometime, but it WILL NOT BE FROM LACK OF OIL!!!!!!!!!!!!I HATE OIL INJECTION!! I blew a 120 Evinrude sky high once from an oil injection system failure! If I had a new motor other than a 4 stroke, I'd have the oil injection taken off if possible!
Keep your powder dry & don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes!!

I'm just the opposite. Mine was going out and I had it replaced this year. I hate having to premix.

I have run oil injected Mercury Pro Max's since 95 and never had an oil injection issue running RPM's well over 6000. I would not take it off. If it failed, I would have it replaced.

keep it, routine maintenance and inspection should catch most any potential problems you may have. Mine is a '91 200hp merc and i have never had a problem. I make sure the oil tank is full and no cranked lines before each tournament or outing. Hope this helps.

There is nothing wrong with this oil system if it is maintained properly. In the early years the problem was the oil lines would get brittle and bust from pressure build up from a stuck check valve now the lines are will not bust but now when the oil check valve sticks it strips the oil gear ........OPTI

All of em are good systems if they are working correctly. If they go out while running WOT, wind blowing like crazy, whitecaps, 60-70 mph trying to stay ahead of a storm, ya reckon you could hear that buzzer? I do not mind pre-mixing. Have done it all my boating years. Had the oiler go out before but was lucky. If it happens to you, then you will be able to definitely make the decision. I do not have deep pockets so I choose to pre-mix. I would imagine most mechanics and outboard motor dealers would like the systems. They do go out and then they get to fix or sell another. Like any kind of mechanical safety, things can and will fail. Why is this so hard to understand? If you like em, then use em. If ya don't, then disconnect em. Mine is disconnected if I didn't say so before.

My oiling system was disconnected when I got my boat. '93 Mariner 150 Mag III. I didn't like mixing. As I'm sure opti will tell you, less oil is required at idle than WOT. I got mine repaired and working again and I like it much better. My little 'ol lake is idle speed only. Keep oil caps tight. No leaks.

If I needed anything done on my motor, OPTI would be who I would call or contact first!!!!

The guy I bought my power head from recommended Keeping it disconnected and had already eliminated the system from the motor I purchased. He is a weekend boat racer and this is on a 2.0 merc. My brother eliminated his on his 200 johnson venom. One thing I do not worry about is my motor breaking from lack of oil. It sure does smoke but I just look at it as extra insurance. Does not take me longer to mix the oil than it did to open the cowl and make sure the oil, cap, tank and lines are all good. Less parts to go bad.
