. . . not the disease. I got over that in 1974. :p

What I do have is some monofilament that is rather old but has been stored on it's original package spool at room temperature.

What's the shelf life of this stuff?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

Hard to say how long line lasts.I have used some 3 to 4 years old with no problems. It was 20# big game. Tie a few knots with it and really pull on it and see how it holds up for you.If it seems ok, i'd practice with it but would not take the chance in a tournament.

Gotta love stupid bass....there the only ones I can catch! Have not found many stupid ones this year!!

that's what i would do too. if you have a spring scale you can test it to see if it still has the same pound test.

In the for what it's worth department in answer to my own question, I just got this response from the boys at Berkley:

Nylon monofilament has a shelf life of 2 to 3 years. You can find this date code on the bottom of your spool label. It will be something like K-12-3-11, the second number, in this case 3 tells us this line was made in 2003.

Good Fishing,

Thanks for passing on the info.

You know...I thought it would last darn near forever on the shelf, it's when you try to put it on a reel that things go bad. smile

I'm a self-made man...I should have kept the warranty.

If it's out of the sun, a few years like Berkley states. That's a problem I have as well, is that I have alot of line that I might never use, but easier to buy new line than have to contend with fishing with questionable line. If you are like me, your fishing trips are worth more to you than a spool of line.
