Guys, my buddy is test driving a ranger with a Merc 125, when it takes off the alarm goes off, the guy says its normal. I ve never heard one do that. It only happens for a few seconds, but it seems odd. Normal, or issue? I believe it's a 2003

Odd.. I had a 96 Merc 125 that did not do that. Oil tank float on mine had sank though so I had to disconnect it.

Not normal at all. Probably the reserve oil tank under cowling is low of oil. I paid 150$ for that info.

My 2001 Merc 225 will sound off with 4 beeps when that oil reserve tank is not being re-filled. There is a float system in that tank that alerts you when the oil level is not being constantly maintained. Sometimes you can fix it by cleaning the suction screen on the dip tube in the onboard oil tank. You can also check the tightness of the caps on your oil tanks.
Unfortunately, when it happened to me, it took two unsuccessful trips to "D's" marine of 2978 (which is now closed) and one trip to Stracks to have it fixed.

My 125 only had one oil tank mounted to the motor.

It depends on the beep sequence. One is for low oil the other us overheat. Just not sure which sequence is which.

Mine started by going off at take off.
Yep $150 oil tank was my problem 05 225

mine was water in fuel filter. Replaced filter all quite now.

Agree with others beeps, arent just to make sure you know your taking off, its a warning. Agree with the oil issue.
