Just a general question, but what brand rods to ya'll use & why the particular brand? (ie AllStar, Castaway, Falcon, Berkley, etc.) I used to be a Castaway fan because they were local but now they're selling Chinese made $50 rods & I know the quality can't be there. Let me know what ya'll think...

I followed the founding Castaway team to their new company, American Rodsmith. If you liked the old Castaways give AR a try. They are making some quality rods.

I've been buying Berkley Lightning Rods for around 15 years. Anyone else like these rods? I think they are a great rod for the money.
There's one...

I just recently switched to American Rodsmiths. For the $$, quality, and variety, I don't think they can be beat. I'm very happy I made the switch.

I am using the new Castaway XP3 rods. Great rods at excellent prices.

I have been slowly switching all my rods to 7 footers and have come to like the BPS Extreme Rods, they will replace these also if they break which I am yet to do. I also have a couple of their crankin sticks that I also like. Big Un!!!!

Thanks. I wondered what happened to the Castaway guys & I thought they went to American Rodsmith. I have looked at them and they are a good price point. I checked their web-site and it seems as if they have to many options & variations. In response to the Berkley rod post, I've had them in the past and they are good rods...but the black matte finish on them tends to show rub marks. But then again, looks (in rods anyway) don't catch fish.

Most of the time, I sorta favor the Shimano Rods in Medium action, 7 ft. One of my favorite rods is a 7 Ft. medium action Lew's "Crankin Stick" rod and I have two of them. Some people may laugh but for worms I use an old Lew's Speed Stick #4-156HOBB in 5"6", medium. Please have a great day! tejaswrangler

I didn't see Falcon anywhere on here and they are the cat's meow with a Shimano sitting in the cradle. Great product for the price and reliable company that backs it.

I've got a variety of rods, and all are my favorite for various reasons. I've got a couple of the older style Abu Harold Ensley SS series in MH 7'0". Wish I had more of the older ones (the maroon blank). They've got a pretty fast tip and a strong backbone. Great for both bass and cats. They changed the style though, and the new ones aren't quite as stiff or as fast action.
I've got one of the Berkley Cherrywoods in 7'0" for my spinning reel. Looked for years to find a low-cost rod for that thing that had a fast action but a good amount of backbone...hard to find in spinning rods. This one has that.
I recently bought a Quantum Tournament Grade IM8 in 7'0" MH for one of my baitcasters. It's pretty stiff with a bit of tip action, so it's a great rod for catfishin'.
No fish is too good for the grease.
