Interested in purchasing 2 HDS units and want to make sure if I do that I get them hooked up right. What all do i need for the top of the line setup.
My brother has Humminbirds and wanted a reliable opinion on why I should stick with Lowrance. One plus of going with 1197's is if one goes down my bro and I have replacements handy. That said I'm a Lowrance guy and given the amount of money I am going to shell out for top of the line I'm still leaning toward Lowrance. Thoughts?

On the Lowrance site they have diagrams of different setups and the installation instructions. also valuable info on Bass boats central web site. Lowrance vs HB is kind of like Ford vs Chevy. Both technologies and capabilities are very similar. Cost difference last time I checked was around $200 with Lowrance being higher. I understand they now have HDS 8/LSS bundle that should make the difference negligable. A lot comes down to spending the time to get either to do what you want. A lot of the guys I know have had HB,s for a while most have not /will not spend the time to understand how they work and set them up. I personnaly prefer Lowrance my HDS 7 with LSS worked great right out of the box. My images are far better than any of theirs. I networked my 520c with an ethernet cable. 2 HDS units will also network with an ethernet cable easy to install
Hope that helps

Whichever you chose, go with the largest screensize you can afford. I have seen it on a hds7 and it just isnt big enough for me to see detail unless you get really close and I have really good eyesight.

I agree with Lakeguide. Just saw a post in the General Discussion forum Lowrance has a rebate that starts Oct 28 and runs untill Feb. They do have the HDS 8 and 10 bundles not sure of prices. Bigger is better. The rebate may cause me to add another unit.

Check trading post. Shut-up-and-fish posted his store now has factory refurbished hds units with full warranty. Might be worth a look
