Hello All, Well I just picked up the new Plueger Echelon baitcast. I baught it with the intentions of returning it for credit or exchange it and pay the difference to get a " Curado ". Well, GUys I dont realy know much about the best gear but I must say that this a darn good reel for the price. Can any one tell me wht would make a plueger reel les capable for bass fishing than the Curado ? Just wondering BTW I have used a Curado several times but after using the Echelon I'v been sold on it. Feel free to give me as much feed back as possible Thanks..... heres a link http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa...&hasJS=true

All reels seem to work out of the box. With Pflueger you get a cheap imported product with no service or parts to back it up. I spoke to Pflueger's Manufacturer's rep and Pflueger's I believe Product manager and asked them why do you not set up repair center or have dealers carry parts like Shimano. Their answers is that is not their problem. THIS SHOWS THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT SERVICE. If it breaks you will probably have to return it to the store if you have a receipt to buy something else or chunk it in the Garbage. I HAVE EVEN HAD A BUYER TELL OF A REGIONAL RETAIL CHAIN TELL ME THEIR PRODUCTS ARE JUNK. DON'T ASK HIM ABOUT THEIR SERVICE.
A few Pfluegers I owned Pflueger solara less than 6 months old and used less than five times. Return pawl had serious wear problems and guess what Pflueger does not make parts for it anymore. They basically left me out to dry on parts for the reel. Finally, I got an offer just to exchange the reel for another brand from a national retailer since Pflueger could not get me the part. Pflueger President used it one day in Saltwater the next day the drag was very sticky and the reel made alot of noise. Took it back to the place where I bought it. The guy at the store laughed when I said I used it for inshore fishing.
My nephew who was a pflueger fan and bought me that crappy Pflueger Solara pulled a nice looking reel out of the box it was a pflueger which he paid $179. Look almost like a Diawa except it was green. Line was on it so we were trying it out in his backyard and it broke. He took it back to the dealer and they did not have parts, could not get parts for it, and did not have another one instock. The dealer wanted to make him happy so the dealer exchanged the reel for a Diawa which was alittle more expensive.
It maybe smoother in the beginning, but it is similar to a harbor freight tool once it breaks throw it away. Pflueger Reels are like Basspro reels they are very hard to find parts or get serviced after a few years or even in my case months. I would rather pay $99 dollars and higher for a shimano or Diawa than throw away money every year or less for a Pflueger. The reason is when they break, need to replace a drag from wear, or clean the reel most shops work on these reels or have parts for them.

I own phlueger reel and have used it for several years bass fishing and some saltwater have caught many 4 lb bass some large redfish and a black drum that went 24 lbs. The reel today is working great and fishes better than my shimano calcutta. I have not had to do any work on the reel what so ever now that i think about it i dont think i have even oiled it in the 4 or 5 years i have used it.

Keep it. I own 2, and I also own 6 curados. The Pflueger is better in my opinion. If you can swing it try the chronarch 50mg. Just my opinion.

Big_Mike I also have an Echelon with a HM 45 Pflueger spinner bait rod & love it. You are right, it's a great reel for the price and smooth. However I bought one & returned it because it was sticking during the retrieve. Once I examined it I found out the the worm gear just needed to be greased and have had not problems since. Yes, you do get what you pay for some times but different people have different luck with different products, stores, cars etc.

Well thanks guys for all the input, I was sure I would be able to get alot of feed back on this question and I did. I do realy enjoy it and yes I also think that all things work depending on the way they are used and taken care of, not that anyone trashes there reel but I have found that reels that are kept out doors or in a extreme climats tend to need more attention. Any way thaks alot as always " Good Fishin "

Hey I did not misuse my reel. I keep my reels inside in top shape. I also repair and clean my reels quarterly if not more than that. Pflueger admits that the reel model was a bad model that I had. I am mad at the fact that 6 months after this reel went off the market there is no parts for it and they did not allow me to send it back until the reel buyer at Academy got involved. Why spend money on a company that admits to making poorly made reels, does not keep parts on hand even though the website says they try to keep them for five years after the reel is off the catalog, and does not replace the reel which by the way was still under warranty.

Stick with Shimano or Daiwa. Reels made in Japan usually hold up better than the others and you can get parts for them if they break. Most Garcias are pretty durable also.

I have a fluegar and its one of my best reels. The President, its a fantastic reel. I wrote a review of it a while back: Pflueger Review Its been over a year now and it still casts and reels smoothily, there is some cosmetic wear, I am a bit tough on my reels. I fish 1-3 times a week at least. I have had Diawa ProCasters, Quantum E600 and Accurist, Abu Garcia Torno, etc. Haven't had Shimano yet and I am looking to get one to compare it as well. Anyways out of all my reels it has been the top contender with the Quantum E600 which I think is side by side in ratings. Good Luck, go with a President and you will be very surprised. I have used it in saltwater fishing for flounder and anything else that would bite with no problems at all. Its compact, light and smooth. And no I have nothing to gain by promoting it, its just a great reel so far.
