I would like to attempt building my own custom bait casting rods primarily as a hobby. I don't really know how to get started so if you have any suggestions, I would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
KB

I have been building custom rods, for the last two years. I can say, it can be the most rewarding and the most frustrating craft, I have ever been involved in.(I love it !!)
I started building my own rods for myself, and word got around, and now, I have a business on my hands.
Be careful !! RodBuilding can be addictive !! And..expensive !!
I'll be glad to help you anyway, I can.I started with a Cabella's kit,and it is one of my favorite rods.
There is nothing more exciting then catching a Bass on a rod that you built...

I just thought of something else, that will help you get started.
Here is a great book, written by Tom Kirkman.."Rod-Building Guide". You can purchase it through Cabella's, or MudHole, or it might be in your public library.
Read this book, before you start, it will save you money, time and aggravation.
And...here is a website, you might want to check out...www.rodbuilding.org..it is a free website, for all rodbuilders.
If you have questions, just e-mail me..

Thanks to each and everyone one of you for the help.

I have fished with cheap rods to expensive rods for a long time. Consequently, I believe I know the key features that I am looking for in a rod. The difficult part will be the pursuit of perfection with the poor skills that I have. I seriously doubt that anyone would be interested in the quality of fishing rods that I make. Still, I want to give it a try....

Thanks again,
KB

Also log on to www.rodbuilding.org . They have some great rod builders suppliers and pictures.
