They are great reels if you like round casters. I have 4 of them (3 200s and one 250) that I am currently using and they are some of the finest reels around. I also have a brand new 200 DC for sale if you are interested in buying one.
The electronic braking works pretty well and is easy to adjust; however, it only aids in preventing backlashes and is not a fool proof prevention against them - you still have to feather the spool with your thumb. My casting distance has improved dramatically whether I am tossing weightless worms or carolina rigs. The only drawback I have found so far is their ability to pitch...not the best reel for this presentation.
I also have 3 Calais and they are quickly becoming my favorite reels, you should give them a try as well if you are about to take the plunge into a high dollar reel.

They're GREAT! Check ebay for a cheaper price. They really cast like no other reel.

Yup...SWEET reel for sure! I can work a school of sand bass from 100yds and never spook them. I can cast near the entire spool of line with 10# on the 200 model so I don't see that the 100 would let you get the full potential out of the reel if you intend on using it for a bass reel. I guess if you go down to 6# it would work but I don't know many people that bass fish with 6#......it would be fine for sandies though.....I'd trade if anyone wants to since I don't fish for largemouth.

I love mine. It's by far the best of my reels. My 3 best reels are Quantum ENergy Pt 860, Diawa Feugo, and Shimano TEDC. I have it paired with a GLommis GLX 7' MH worm rod, so that probably has something to do with my preference too. One thing to note, it isn't backlash proof and takes about 20 cast to fine tune the settings. Once you have it dialed in, it's awesome!
If I could afford it, I'm have 10 more paired with Kister Helium 2's or GLX's.

I am looking into buying a DC for bass fishing. I would probably use it as a top water or crankbait reel. Do you think the 200 is better than the 100? Right now I am using 2 Curado's, 2 Calais and 3 Chronarch 50 MG. I really like the weight of the chronarchs. So my concern with the 200 is that it weighs 9.9 oz. The 100 is only 8.4. Any thoughts on this??

I sold my 200DC so I could buy a 100DC. The 100DC is slightly smaller (palms better), slightly lighter (I can feel the difference on my GLX CR722) and comes with a slightly smaller handle (this I don't like...I'm thinking about buying a 250DC handle...I am told they are interchangeable).
Like the 200DC, the 100DC casts like a dream...at least as good as the 200 and (maybe it's my imagination or maybe it's the slightly smaller spool) maybe better.

Thanks. I also use GLoomis rods. What do you throw on your CR722? I mainly wanted to know if the 100DC would cast as far as the 200DC. Before I bought my 50 Mgs, I was concern about their casting ability compared to my Calais. I came to find out that the 50 Mg's cast very well.

Ranger, both reels are very similar but take into consideration that the 200 is a 5.0:1 gear ratio vs the 5.8:1 on the 100. I use the 200s for bigger baits like deep cranking and slow rolling big spinnerbaits. The 100 may be better suited for general applications.
As far as casting is concerned I think that once you find the right settings for the VBS and brake controls the higher end Shimanos (Calais and Chronarchs) cast very similar to the DC. However, the DC has the advantage of adjusting the internal brakes without opening the case due to the digital brake control on the outside.
I dont think you can compare the DCs to the MGs for the type of fishing you mentioned. After a full day of cranking on a much heavier, round caster you will definitley feel the difference. You should take into consideration the ergonomics and weight factor over the casting distance to make your final decision.

The 100 has a smaller spool and has been reported to be the distance casting king of the DC models. Shimano\'s DC Page
