I'm thinking of bidding on one on eBay. Several comparisons I found on the internet praised this reel, but a friend said his gave out and he wouldn't get another. I just thought I'd find opinions from others.

I now use all shimano reels, but I do have 4 Johnny Morris reels that I used in the past. I've personally had abolutely zero problem with them. They have always been smooth and have done well for me, but I have heard a few bad reports. The guy at Southwestern Reel Parts in Dallas told me that they were a bad reel and that there was no way to purchase the parts to fix them. You can buy the old Curado for nearly identical price.

is this the new one? I have one and have had no problems at all. Have used it every trip for about a year. However, with the old shimanos going on sale i am migrating that direction.
Keep on Bassin'

I have had 2. One still works great for me and the other one busted after about a year and I took it back and traded it in on another Curado. Like the performance of the reel but they would only give me $99 of credit for the reel since I didn't have my receipt anymore (gift) and I wasn't going to spend $60 more to get the new Morris so I got a Curado instead and have never regretted that decision. Only 2 more reels to go and then all Shimano for me.

I had one too and did not like it at all.. The paint started chipping on it after about 2 months and the reel fell apart after about 6months. I too took it back for a curado and dont regret it one bit! I have had a lot of problems with bp reels in the past and will not buy them anymore.. There return policy is great but product could be better....

I'd say that year in and year out, the vast majority of posts that I've seen on the Internet are quite negative on ALL Bass Pro Shops reels. For that reason alone, I'd run from them.

For the price of a Johnny Morris, go Shimano. I bought a JM and it pales in comparison to my Shimanos.

I have had 2 sieze up on me when putting line on them for customers, granted I fill the spool from empty to full in just a few seconds with an electric motor but I have only had that happen with one other reel (old ambass)
