Went in Wednesday or Thursday to pick up a couple of things for trip to broken bow.
Saw some ultra lite combos by Shakespeare for $19.99. Pre-loaded with 4# Stren.
Decided to pick up a couple just in case my regular stuff messed up(plus we had neophyte fishing camp mates). When I got to the register, they were marked down to $12. SCORE!!!
Told the girl to ring up 2 more..... HAHA.

Well. I ended up using them and one spun a bearing after an hour of use.

I guess I got what I paid for.

Will return it and leave them all dust free for back up again.... Just in case it was a fluke.
Just glad I didn't buy out the rack. grin

I bought one of those suspender type life vests that auto inflate last week. it was marked down from $139 to $69. I hope I don't have similar results with it!

If that's those little grey and gold combos (Micro-Cast?), I love those things. I have 2 of them, both over a year old, and fished hard. Bout the only thing I put on them is those Strike King Bitsy Minnow crank baits and catch bluegill down at the creek. I wouldn't waste my time or money on most Shakespeare products, but those little Micro-casts have been pretty good little combos.

There great for the kids too. They learn to cast and I don't panic when it looks like they are going to drop it in the lake.

i disagree, shakespeare has been very good to me. I love ugly stiks and have a tw30l reel. The rel has caught cats, sharks, reds etc. it casts almost as well as my abu 6500c3. Nice loud clicker too. Most cases cheep=[censored] but ive been satisfied with shakespeare.

I agree that Shakespeare rigs are good. I have used Shakespeare products for at least 50 years and they have always provided value for money. It is not fair to compare a $19.95 Shakespeare rig to a $100.00 Daiwa or Abu rig. And they honor warranties, so the defective bearing will be replaced. I have gotten defective products from the high priced spreads too.

Those of us who use ultralight rigs are going to wear out more reels than the heavier products, just because they cannot be robust and still be ultralight. A big bass or catfish that spools any ultralight rig is going to overheat the drag clutch and cause damage.

Same here Planosooner. After the first day below the lavon dam and 5 big sandies broke off I went and put some better line on it. That little stream seeker from Shakespeare is a good creek combo. I am still using it from 3 years ago.
