Hello all, I am an avid reader of this forum, but this is my first post here. I was fishing off the Isle de Bois pier in Ray Robert's Lake in Texas, when I caught this fish using a minnow, but I do not seem to recognize it.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Not a Drum, It's a Croaker

Comparing images of drum and croaker, I think it is a croaker too!

Thanks to both of you!

Up here in the upper Midwest we call that a "Sheep Head"

Not a sheepshead. Sheepshead have black vertical stripes and big buck teeth. It's a goo.

Freshwater Drum.

People travel hundreds of miles to catch and eat their cousins, the redfish and the speckled trout, yet will throw the freshwater version on the bank and cuss it for not being a bass/crappie/catfish.

They are the only freshwater member of the family, and are a cool fish, and very worthy of your table.

Freshwater Drum have many names. I grew up calling them croakers. Some do call them Sheepshead but there's also a saltwater Sheepshead that's totally different with human looking front teeth.

We always call them gaspergoo or drum. Catch a lot of them on spoons.
