Comparing images of drum and croaker, I think it is a croaker too!

looks like a freshwater drum to me... being he is in a lake its not a black drum or croaker... ( some call it a gaspagoo ) tight lines
think like a fish, no matter how weird it gets...

looks like a freshwater drum to me... being he is in a lake its not a black drum or croaker... ( some call it a gaspagoo ) tight lines You are correct...I didn't look to see where he caught it.

Not a sheepshead. Sheepshead have black vertical stripes and big buck teeth. It's a goo.

Freshwater Drum.
People travel hundreds of miles to catch and eat their cousins, the redfish and the speckled trout, yet will throw the freshwater version on the bank and cuss it for not being a bass/crappie/catfish.
They are the only freshwater member of the family, and are a cool fish, and very worthy of your table.

We always call them gaspergoo or drum. Catch a lot of them on spoons.
