Anyone tried the new Abu Revos? What do you think?

I have been fishing it for over a month. Best reel I have ever placed in my hand. I have calcutta's and a few other nice reels. I will be purchasing the Revo from now on. The only issue left is the durability. If it has the same die hard attitude as the older garcia's then this thing is a winner.

Just for point of reference mine is the STX.

Thanks for the feedback. These are the first Abus in a while that I am interested in.

As long as they hold up I do not know why folks would fish anything else. They fish, and feel just like the high dollar reels that cost twice as much. The adjustments are super easy to make. The drag is smooth, and can be locked down. I mean just everything about this reel is right. Hope this helps.

Very smooth reel. The STX feels like other reels that are twice the price. Now if it will hold up over time?, who knows.

Is the lower end "S" model as smooth as the others? It has a centrifugal brake instead of the magnetic. I like that better since it is more like what I am used to. I use Shimano Chronarch MG's because of their size and weight but I would be willing to give the Revo a try if it can compare.

I finally made about 500 casts today with my Revo STX and caught a couple fish. I was fishing Senkos, wacky worms, shakey heads, swimming jigs, and weightless worms- all using my Falcon Weightless Worm Rod which I use a hell of a lot. The reel is pretty solid. It casts smooth and far even when using very light lures (weightless worms). It feels great when hauling in a 3lb. fish. I did experiece more backlashes than with my Shimano Chronarchs (100B and 50MGs). I think this is a matter of getting use to how to set its spool tension and magnetic cast control. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and this is a nice real for fishing soft plastics.

The thing I don't like about this reel is that it is made in Korea. I'd feel better about its long term durability if it was made in Japan. All of Shimano's high-end reels are made in Japan while their less expensive models are made elsewhere.

Depends on where in Korea it's made. South Korean stuff should be good, North Korea is cheaper labor and stuff is pumped out like in China or Bangladesh.
I grew up throwing C3's and loved Abu Garcia stuff for a long time. I've since switched to mainly low profile reels, hopefully this one will bring me back to Abu. I plan to pick up an S model next week and find out for myself.

Just got an STX today, along with a Cast Away rod. I think I will have a very good time fishing this setup.

Dont forget to set your drag!
