If you want a light rod, don't go glass. Look for a moderate action graphite blank. Castaway makes some really nice moderate action graphite popping blanks that work well for cranks. If you do want glass, Phenix's new glass blanks are pretty light for their size...

I use 7'4" kvd rods and can throw square bill up to dd-22 with no problems.

I would go check out the Denali cranks, either the Jadewood or Rosewood. Super light and very tough.

I really love my St Croix Premier 7' glass crankin stick. I got it for around $100 and have been using it for 2 years now without a hitch. I use a heavier Powell rod for bigger/deeper diving baits, but for a general purpose crankin stick, I couldn't be happier with my St Croix.

We have the mentioned configuration as one of our set-ups and find it quite versatile.

This is an awesome rod for medium/deep divers. I have a 7' Dobyns 705CB Glass rod for throwing square bills. That glass rod is lighter than most of my graphite rods. Both are awesome rods.
