Put some fiberglass resin on the wood before you carpet it, keeps it from rotting quite so fast.Both sides and the edges.

It does happen in 3s though. For me it was EGR cooler, oil cooler and oil pump. Just shy of 6K for all the repairs on my truck. All happened in a 2 month time span after owning truck over 8 years.
