Thanks DCM. I caught a 5 lber yesterday in the net but just thought it was a carp. I didn't really know the difference. The guys that were bank fishing looked at me a little crazy when I threw it back. Something smaller and I would consider cutting it up.

Don't be scared to cut up a big buff. When you fillet them it doesn't seem like there is alot if meat on them.

Ain't skeerd LOL. I just didn't want that much bait. Shad are plentiful. But, Mrs. Salsa did a number on everyone with her buffalo.

Remember that you can always cut up and freeze the extra buffalo fillets for later in the winter when shad is harder to get and it works much better than frozen shad. It also helps to add some dead red or menhaden oil type stuff to it if you do use it after it is frozen.

I've also heard of guys beating up the carp or buff. To get the blood in to the meat. I've seen guys use bats or pipes to do this. Of course after the fish was harvested.

I've never caught a carp. But I have seen some intense battles between man and carp.I would love to catch some for bait, and at this point, I would like to just feel the tug of any thing.

I've never tried it with carp, but when I have a live buffalo that I'm going to use for bait I will (prior to cutting it) take a stick, paddle, fire extinguisher, etc. and beat the hell out of it to bruise it and bring as much blood into the meat as I can.

I know I'm mean, but I think it helps.
