My Son and I are looking at making a trout fishing adventure to Arkansas during the next couple of months. Sure would appreciate your ideas on where to go, where to stay, maybe a guide to use and also if we want to fish on our on after using a guide some recommended spots or places to fish. We are going to be somewhat mobile and can move around some or stay in the same place if the fishing warrants. We will not be taking a boat. Also, is this the time whan a person has a better chance of catching some large trout?

Thanks for any information you might pass along either by posting of a pm.

Appreciate the Information:

Ron, Mud-Dabber

Norfork Trout Dock. Google it. Great fishing for Brown, Rainbow, Cuthroat and Brookies. I have not used a guide but they have affordable boats to rent and can recommend a local guide. They also have nice accomadations right on the bank of the White river where the Norfork river comes in.

Definitely second that. Was, and may still be owned by a guy I knew when I lived in Arkansas. So it may still be Mike Harrison. If money is no object, then look at Gastons. Little pricier, but nice, restaraunt, and great guides. If you went there I would ask for Frank Saska. If you go in the winter and they are running water you will be happy you have a guide. So have a good trip, and throw a small jerk bait when the water is on and hold on.

Just got back about two weeks ago. We stayed at Sportsmans and used guide, Pete Cobb. Would definately recommend using a guide, keeping that boat in the right position is an art in itself. We caught probably 200+ fish the first day (full day) and about 100+ the next day (1/2 day). Nothing much as far as size (Dad did catch about a 20" Brown), but we caught alot of fish. Used shrimp and corn and had alot of fun.

TAKE A KID FISHING, YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO KEEP THEM OUT OF TROUBLE LATER!!!

+1 on Norfork! We always do good there. Try to keep track of how much water they are running prior to your trip though. If they are generating a lot, the fishing can be pretty tough.(and makes wading a no go) But, if the water is low, and you want a shot at a monster, go to the mouth of the Norfork where it meets the White river. Wade out to the point and go to work. Seen many big browns come from that area.

Good luck

man i'm jealous. i grew up 10 minutes from the white river and used to fish there all the time. i have to second the recommendation for gastons. i don't know about now but they used to cook whatever fish you caught that day for you and the lodging is great. if they're generating a lot of water i'd say find some kind of jetty of creek and fish the seam where the eddie flow around it for a good reliable bite.

I am going with Cotter Trout Docks...this will be my second trip with them.On my first trip with them my dad, sister, and I caught over 70 trout on a full day. I would definetly suggest looking into a trip with them.

I used to fish right there by the cotter dock( the old lady that worked there would always yell at me for fishing too close to it:p). That's a great spot to put in too.

Been to Heber Springs and loved it. May be further than the other places mentioned but if you go, check in with thr Little Red Fly shop for info, flys and hiring a guide. Stay at the Lobo landing, great cabins, and it's where my guide put in the river. After a day with a guide you can rent a boat there at the Landing and do it yourself. October is when the big brown trout start biting good.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!
