So John Barrett is hanging it up after twenty one years, and Conway Bowman will be the new host. This should be an improvement-Barrett is just a little smarmy for my tastes. Nevertheless, it has been an interesting and well-done program for a long, long time.

I never much understood TV fishing shows, yea, I've watched em over the years but B.S. factor is over 90% on most of them... gimme a crew & some cash & some time & an editor & even I could put together a nice lookin day.

exception: Mariko Izumi fishing show....,hmmm, come to think of it I don't remember if she ever caught a fish but its a good show

I doubt fly fishing shows will ever make it. The problem with them is that they have to focus on fly fishing to an "extreme" scale: fishing in Alaska, bonefishing, Patagonia, etc. But, they can't present the 'real' fishing we do because probably no one will watch it. Bassin' never gets any love and I can't put my first child up for sale so either way, they suck.

There was one episode from Fishing the World that I thought was good. Some old man was taxing himself with a 40lb trout or something. The show featured this man's story along the abstract methods he was to endure in completing such an exausting task, instead of focusing on the host endlessly catching fish whilst boasting that stupid posh swagger and perpetuating all things expensive. It had a good vibe, a true veteran fisherman who has exploited nearly everything there is to do fishing-wise, all to gamble for a true trophy fish.

I wish more shows could take this approach. You get more out of it than just watching some moron brag about the 58 fish he caught. Don't get me wrong, I think Curtis Flemming is a good fisherman and all... He just kinda strikes me as an idiot.
