Just bought a 798, have tried hooking it up through the fuse box on a 3 amp fuse, tried hooking it directly to the battery and it wont power up. Tried it on both batterys, tested the cable and its good. Bent the pins slightly to make sure the power was seated firmly, wiggled it around, still nothing. Leaving for a tourney next wednesday, hate to go without a finder, hoping someone can give some advice to get it working.

I have a 1197c that was on my boat when I bought it, my questions are :

It only has 1 transducer under my jackplate, is this an HD SI transducer? That is what my graph is set to read.

My 2d sucks on it, I have played with the settings and its never too good, when I am 8 foot or less , even in clear mode, the surface line is like an inch from the bottom. No idea why this happening??

Also what are some basic set up settings for my SI on 1197c? I cannot get good clear images or see fish or bait very often.

On the 1198 my side imaging is not so clear and sonar I got nothing, I tried switching to the transducer on the trolling motor and works great. So I tried disconnecting the high speed transducer and nothing, the wierd thing was that side imageing would not work without the high speed ducer pluged in. Any suggestions???

Look at the Power Cable and make sure connection are tight. Crimped on cables can cause unit to only get partial power and partially work.

What does the other unit do on the transom mount? Could be the 2D transducer installed in the ull is loose or not working properly.

Best way to test is take the Y cable out and hook SI transducer direct.

Try hooking power cable direct to the unit not in the cable collector. IF that doesn't work call HB Customer Service 800-633-1468

What is your surface clutter setting? Clear Mode or Max Mode? Sensitivity Settings?

Also try without the Y Cable and see what happens with only SI transducer hooked to unit. Could be 2D transducer installation or transducer concern.

Thanks Doug that is what I was going to try next time out as far as switching units I just didn't have any tools with me at the time. I'll let you know what I find. One other question is: Do both transducers have to be pluged into the y for it to work or not? I just thought it was wierd that the side imaging did't work at all without the high speed one pluged in.

I have watch your videos and tried adjusting the surface clutter and the sensativity and cannot get a good reading. I have also tried both clear and max modes. My boat doesn't have a seperate transducer for the 2d, I am curious if that is what it needs. I have a 788 on the bow and it reads good in the same depths.

Cross Test try the 1197c on the 788 transducer and the 788c on the 1197c transducer to test the 2D readings.

You do have latest software installed?

Can you post image of transducer install? Is these readings while idling? or Setting Still? Might be water turbulence off the hull creating issues with all sonars.

Have you actually checked the connections on your 1197 to verify that you do not have a shoot-thru 2D transducer connected with the HDSI transducer via a Y cable or transducer switch? That is the normal installation for your boat type since you have a jackplate mounted SI transducer.
The transducer selection setting is the same as with a single HDSI transducer.

I have a 788 and a 787 with GPS, is there a place that I can enter a GPS location and it will mark it in my unit,...
or is that wishful thinking,..?

Go to the Navigation Menu in Master Menu then down to Waypoint and then to Create and you can manually enter waypoints.

I have the 798cisi and recently bought a platinum south Navionics card (used). Will everything work except the 3D features?

Just installed my new to me 797 and wet out today and had a lot of issues getting it to pick up good reading I don't know if its bc of the transducer placement or settings.
Here is where I put the transducer.

Here is what I get when I crank the motor up with the settings I have the unit on. I had the sensitivity on 12 and the speed on 3. When I start idling the picture gets really bad.

This is a pic of pilings on a bridge if I didn't know what it was there is no way with the picture quality as bad as it is I would have known what it was.

My understanding is yes you can still view the contour charts
