 This is not new news or anything but first penn reel i have bought since they are made in china.Is nothing sacred ?? Penn Captiva CV 6000 $39.99 Reg. price $59.99 at Cabela's Least it was on sale

When did they start making em there? I just checked mine it is Made in USA. I see they have taken that off of there website.

Penn was bought out by Master around two years ago--if you're not familiar with them, they're a large importer of cheap, overseas fishing tackle. You can find their cheapo combos at drug stores, sporting good stores, etc...
Pretty sad for an old American firm.

Looks like I'm just gunna have to keep repairing my good old solid metal reels. Those older penns havent let me down yet.

Just used my captiva for the first time last night.
Wasn't all that impressed with it.Had it loaded up on a 10ft berkley reflex rod.This rod is rated for 2-8 oz weight & i use this rod if need/want to get the bait out a ways from the bank while chasing those whisker fish.
So i was throwing 3oz weight & during retrive, the captiva was a flexing pretty bad. I think i saw someone else mention this problem with them.
I will not repeat purchase.The cabela's spinner's,the salt stikers seem more solid than captiva's.
But of course, this just my opinion. FISH on.
