I found this site and thought i might ask a question here.I am not to sure how much a 5000 yard spool 20 pound test line weighs so this is kinda why I need help. There is a story of a man that claims to have a 15 mile deep hole on his property. He said he tied lifesavers to the line to make sure he didn't hit water. He put a one pond weight on the line and lowered 20 spools into the hole.80,000 feet.Plus the line hung there from the summer months to the winter months. My thoughts is the line would get weathered and break.do you think the line could hold up with all that weight?

I went to the forum. I would have to see the hole to believe this one. It would take a bunch of spools to get to the bottom of this hole. Who made this whole thing up and when? Where is this hole located?

The Marianas Trench , east of the Phillipine Islands, is the deepest part of any ocean at around 7 miles (about 37,000 feet). I'd kinda like to know what this guy is smokin' myself....

However, given that the earth's crust in the Texas area is approximately 23-27 miles thick, this could be legit....

If you put yer ear to the hole, could you hear Chinese talking?

Redfin,

funny you mentioned that! I looked at the site mentioned and checked out the bulletin board. They have said they found a similiar hole in some other country, and lowered a microphone into it. They supposedly have ON TAPE, the voices of "millions of people living in purgatory"!

I'm staying out of this one!

Must have been a slant hole because it sounds like they got a recording of people living in California!(NO offense intended)
Or maybe they lowered a microphone and recorded a season's worth of games sounds at Arlington and Texas stadiums.Or maybe they recorded the sounds of Americans receiving our tax forms. Seems like there's alot of places they could have made "that" recording!

Too hot down there wayyyyyyyy before you reach 80,000 feet...the fishing line would melt. He was probably continuing to feed fishing line down since it's own weight at a certain point would continue to pull it down. Even if it were 35,000 feet down, he'd continue to feed enough line until he was able to say he put 80,000 feet down and it was still spooling off...
