Several years ago! AMF used to own Harley Davidson. That's why I lovingly refer to my beautiful 1983 Sportster (named Equus) as a "bowling ball". laugh

Truth as I know it is, GLoomis is still rolling their own blanks and "really" building their rods...just like Gary Loomis taught them to. If anything, I'd suspect an improvement in Shimano's rod offerings. Probably not at the level of AMF's improvement in their motorcylce offerings, though. laugh

Shimano Crucial's are nice rods and less money than a GLoomis. I believe they have an excellent warranty too. Fun'N'Sun, Hurst has a good stock of Crucials. $139.00.
I have GLoomis rods of various descriptions. They are are my favorites. Especially my Carolina rig rod, which is no longer made.

Shimano and G-Loomis have been working in conjunction for years now, beginning with the Shimano V-Rod Series that catered to specific bass fishing techniques using Loomis rod blanks. This news just means that Shimano's high end rod line is now backed by the performance accredited to G-Loomis rods for years and years.

No G-Loomis no longer uses the same composite that Gary started with. The composite today is supposed to be better? There is a rod co. that builds rods useing the same composite Gary started with. They have the plans for that blank and are making it. It is Hendrix Rods you can find them at www.fishermike.com hope I have helped. They really are good rods.
