I have a Kevin Van Dam series Quantum bair cast reel on a 6'6" medium-heavy All Star rod.

I'm not sure what it's name is, but the crank on the inside of the handle of the reel that sets how much tension the reel will take when I set the hook will not crank down at all. I have taken the reel apart, but I still cannot pin point the problem.

I have 2 more of the same reels (1 on a 7' CastAway worm rod and another on a 6' All Star medium rod) and I have been happy with all three reels the entire time I have had them.

Any ideas to solving my problem are welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks

Steven

The star drag? Don't take this the wrong way but are you sure you're not loosening instead of tightening it? Maybe your drag washers need cleaned or replaced.

I cleaned them with some PB penetrating catalyst. I can tell when I'm loosening it because the line can just be taken out with no effort at all. When I turn it to tighten it, it gets harder to turn like it's tightening up, but it still takes the same amount of pressure to pull the line off of the reel.

How old is the reel? Sounds like the drag washers need to be replaced or you are missing a spaceing bushing. Hope this helps.

That PB Blaster might have ate something up.

Some reels have dry drags and some have wet. Meaning the drag washers have grease on them. Not sure about that reel. Ask on this forum. A guy named ReelMech will most likely answer your question.

I'll bet you're using braided line and the line is just slipping on the spool. Remove it, wrap some black electricians tape on the spool, then respool the line back on.
If you watch as you pull on the line carefully, just look to see if the spool is turning also. If it's not, this is what the problem is. I've seen it happen dozens of times.

Fisher Mike only uses soap and water to clean a reel. Give him a call, or check out his websit at www.fishermike.com. 817-737-7525 for those who would like my name is a cross between a Texan, and a Cajun. My mother is from south La. and my father from Liberty, Tx. that makes me a Halfass!
