been tossing around the idea of putting a trolling motor on my canoe, but i'm not really sure how i'd go about it.
i know i'd have to get it registered, where do i do this and how much would it cost?
is it absolutely necessary to have one of the mounts they sell, or can i just mount it straight to the side of the canoe?
what kind of battery/charger would i need to get, and what kind of range can i expect out of off an on use?
i'm thinking somewhere in the range of a 30# thrust would be suitable for my needs. i'm not looking to spend alot on this experiment, because i still haven't made up my mind whether to just get rid of it and get a kayak or not.

for not much more than a decent trolling motor you can get small gas motor the same size as trolling motor. then you get to the fishing hole in a hurry and start catching fish instead of paddling. To each his own tho, thats just what i would do

You can use a regular marine battery and just charge it on trickle and make sure it's got water in it when your not using it. Probably have to find the local office about getting it registered, probably around 60 bucks or that's what I remember it costing about last time I got my boat registered. You might be able to mount it to the side if you can put a short piece of 2x4 between the boat and the mount. Might make it alittle stouter.

I was thinking the same thing about the 2x4. I'm trying to weigh the cost of putting all this together, with tm, battery, registration, new seats w some back support and whatever else might come along. Right now it's looking like I'd come out on top selling the canoe and picking up a pescador 12.

Once I put two trolling motors* on my Grumann 17'
W fresh batteries it went alot faster than I thought it would. What ? How fast ? Heck how would I know... its a gol durn canoe! We described the speed, once, as 'dang fast'.
* One in front, left side, one in back, on the right. Thats the proper way to do it, right?

Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

As long as you have them tied together with a rope and are standing up in the canoe, that's exactly correct.
