I am planning on buying my little sister a good reel that is somewhat smooth and easy to cast. She is currently using an old zebco 33 that is just plain worn out (from my younger years). Anybody got any suggestions. I am not planning on spending over $30. I also see that Wal-Mart has a Zebco Omega that is usually like $50 on clearance. How good is this reel?

I think that's the top of the line. Check prices on eBay. Why not another 33?

That is definately probably the top of the line spincast reel, for cheaper I would try the Daiwa Silvercast. My girlfriend's father bought her and her mom one recently and compared to the Zebco33 it really casts MUCH smoother. I don't like the single paddled handle though.

Abu-matics are the toughest & nicest spincast reels I have found, however they run about $45...they are worth it though as ti will last forever.

Thanks, I might just get another 33, but I am maybe going to get her the next step up in quality. I'm not sure yet.

The Rhino spincast reel is also a nice upgrade. This is also a Zebco reel but with worm gears and aluminum components. Casts nicely and pretty much indestructible for $25. This reel also palms nicely and has a rubber thumb button. Drag is also nice.

I second the Rhino. I have 3 of 'em and they are very nice. I'm looking to try an Omega sometime soon.

I just bought a new 33 Platinum and I was impressed with it's quality. Nothing "FLIMSY" about this reel. At good Ol'wally world for $25.
